Mexican Mirrors
Mexican suns - Embossing and Weaving
This lesson was adapted from Cassie Steven's Sun/Moon weaving lesson http://cassiestephens.blogspot.com/2014/11/in-art-room-mexican-sunmoon-weavings.html We squeezed this lesson into 2 weeks time though! Week 1, the students built their form faces from the center section of 2 Styrofoam plates. They glued them with Elmer's and set them aside to dry while they painted their paper plates. The following week, I sprayed their styro-faces with spray glue (the stickiest stuff ever! - we were scrubbing it off of the tables for weeks!), and they pressed a piece of foil onto the face. They outlined the facial features with black sharpie and colored with colorful sharpies to complete the face. I hot glued the faces to their plates, and they began to weave- over, under, over, under. Needless to say, we were very busy those 2 weeks, but these were a huge hit at our art show and on display in the hallway! |
